The House That Jack Built
Broadcast Pioneer Hal Jackson in Pictures
It’s been said “a picture is worth a thousand words.” That sentiment rang true at the opening of the photo retrospective, “The House That Jack Built: Hal Jackson, the Godfather of Black Radio.” The exhibit, a treasure trove of over 40 iconic photos, chronicles key moments in the illustrious career of the trailblazer Harold B. Jackson, co-founder of Inner City Broadcasting Corporation (ICBC) and the host of Sunday Classics, which aired for over two decades on 107.5 WBLS-FM.
Family, friends, former Hal Jackson’s Talented Teens contestants, and entertainment industry insiders gathered for the opening reception on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at the Sandy Bennet Gallery at BergenPAC in Englewood, NJ. Hal’s widow, philanthropist, photographer, and president of Youth Development Foundation, Inc., Debi B. Jackson curated the exhibit, a visual journey through the life and times of the broadcasting legend.
Among those at the event were Englewood Mayor Michael Wildes; former Jackson colleague at WBLS, onair personality Doctor Bob Lee; former co-host of Sunday Classics Clay Berry, and Skip Dillard, brand manager WXBK 94.7.
