The Scholarship

The Youth Development Foundation, Inc. (YDF) is a non-profit tax-exempt organization, which promotes culture and education with an emphasis on the performing arts. It was created to encourage diversity and intercultural relations and present innovative training and musical programs with educational opportunities for its participants.
YDF awards scholarships to young women 15 to 18 years of age to assist with their college education. The program is open to all ethnic groups with an emphasis on diversity and intercultural awareness to foster and develop their leadership skills as well assist in building self-esteem and self-confidence.

Requirements

  • Scholars must be a member of a New York City high school 2021 Graduating Class.
  • A scholar must have or maintain a good school attendance with passing grades and a good character. Last report card or transcript must be submitted.
  • Scholar gives permission to the Youth Development Foundation, Inc. (YDF) and Black Women For Black Girls (BWBG) to use her photographic likeness, and voice a gratis in connection with the scholarship, including any subsequent recorded or timed excerpts for commercial purposes.
  • Scholar hereby releases the YDF and BWBG from any and all claims for damages or injuries, which may be sustained while participating in any activities of any program.
  • The scholar named as Scholarship Recipient agrees to enter an accredited college of their choice the first semester after graduation from high school and will maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA or will forfeit their scholarship.
  • Scholars must complete and submit application online by 8:00PM on May 21st, 2021.
  • YDF/BW4BG Committee will select five (5) applicants who have submitted the best responses.

Winning Applicants

  • Students will be honored at the College Shower BW4BG event held via Zoom online June 26, 2021.
    Attendance is mandatory.
  • Students in conjunction with a BW4BG sponsor during a mandatory face to face or phone meeting will create a Bed, Bath and Beyond gift registry of items needed for school and the BW4BG members will purchase items.
  • Students will be expected to attend a winter check-in event for 2020 honorees and will be invited to next year’s college shower for new honorees.
  • Students will be expected to write hand written thank you letters for the college shower gifts received from addresses provided to them by their BW4BG sponsor.
  • Will receive a $1000 scholarship from the Youth Development Foundation upon the successful completion of the 1st semester in college with a 3.0 GPA or better after the timely submission of an official school transcript.
